A little history …

Robert Blanc was a ski instructor and mountain guide who created, with his brothers and Robert Gaudino, les Arcs ski resort. He planed to built a refuge under the aiguille des Glaciers.

The refuge was built in 1981. But as Robert Blanc died in 1980 in an avalanche, he never saw it. The name of the refuge was dedicated to his memory.

It finally opened in 1982. The first guardian was John Durdilly.

Local guides from Les Arcs and the city of Bourg-Saint-Maurice both worked hard to develop the refuge.

The refuge is owned by the city of Bourg Saint-Maurice.
